Resources for CME Needs Assessment

"Do a Good Turn Daily" is the slogan of the Boy Scouts of America.

I benefited greatly from scouting as a boy. Now I'd like to give back by sharing a bit of the scout spirit with my followers in the Twitterverse.

During the month of May, I will be tweeting daily about free guidelines on the Internet related to assessing the need for continuing education in the health professions. This 31-day community service project is meant to support the good work of others in our field. It may also help me earn credit toward  recertification from the Commission for Certification of Healthcare CPD Professionals. (Next best thing to a merit badge.)

If you are interested in the topic of needs assessment, I encourage you to follow @CME_Scout on Twitter.

Best Practices Writing CME Needs Assessments

This slide deck was presented in January 2015 at a workshop in Dallas, Texas and in March at a workshop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The slides will be presented again in May during a webinar sponsored by the Delaware Valley chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA).

Many thanks to my co-investigator, Ruwaida Vakil MS, and to the more than 100 survey respondents nationwide who made these slides possible. Thanks also to AMWA and the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions. Both organizations promoted a link to our survey to their members.

If you want to be sure your next CME needs assessment reflects best practices, please contact Don Harting at don@hartingcom.com or Ruwaida Vakil at ruwaida@vakil.ca.
